2017 Teen Summer Reading Program

Beginning Monday, June 19, students in Grades 6-12 can sign up for our Summer Reading Program and earn free prizes for reading during summer break!  Come to the library to sign up, or download a registration form and return it to the library circulation desk.  Fill out a book review for each book you read to be entered for a weekly prize drawing!

Weekly meetings will be held on Thursday evenings at 6:00pm (unless otherwise noted).  Come to any or all events and enjoy movies, games, water fights, refreshments, and other fun activities. At our final meeting on August 10, we will draw the winner of our grand prize of a $50 GIFT CARD!

Book Trailer Competition

Are you artistic? Are you creative? Do you like acting?


  • Pick a book that has not been adapted to film
  • Work individually or with a friend to write, direct, and film a trailer based on the book
  • Cast your friends and family
  • Add in special effects, sounds, and music if you want
  • G, PG, or PG-13 rated
  • Time limit: 30 seconds to 1 minute, 30 seconds

Book trailers DUE: August 3 at 6:00 p.m.

Book trailer viewing: August 10 at 6:00 p.m.

The top three book trailers will be put on the Phillipsburg Free Public Library website.

You don’t need fancy software or professional filming equipment. Just grab your phone, open the camera, and start filming!


Summer Reading Events

June 22 – Kickoff program with ice cream sundaes and ice breaker games!

June 29 – Come decorate rocks and flower pots. Plant a flower before you leave in your new pot!

July 6 – Join us for a Murder Mystery evening. Try to figure out who committed the crime and how they did it.

July 13 – Come out for a Build Night.  You’ll have an hour to work and create something out of various household and craft supplies. 

July 20 – We will have an Outdoor Field Day with sports, games, water balloons, and more! Remember to wear sneakers!

July 27 – Get ready for a book discussion and movie night!

August 3 – The Da Vinci Science Center presents “Thrill Ride.” You will create roller coasters out of homemade materials and investigate variables, speed, and averages. (Registration is required for this program – call 908-454-3712)

August 10 – Pizza party and the grand prize drawing!
