First Annual
Adult Winter Reading Challenge

The holidays are over. The weather outside is frightful. It’s the perfect time to curl up with a good book and participate in our first-ever Adult Winter Reading Challenge. For every challenge you complete, fill out an entry form (paper or online) to earn a chance at one of two grand prizes:  an Amazon Echo Dot or a $50 Barnes & Noble Gift Card.

Dates: Monday, January 9 through Friday, March 3

How to Play:

Complete the challenge of your choice, choosing a book from our adult or young adult collection. Audiobooks count. Graphic novels count.  Videos do not.

Fill out the entry form that corresponds with your challenge.

Submit the entry form into the box at the library OR submit your form online.

Forms must be filled out completely to be eligible.

The Challenges:

You do not have to complete each challenge. Pick the ones you want. You can complete a challenge more than once, and submit an entry each time.

Challenge #1 Read a genre you ordinarily don’t read.  If you usually read romance, try science fiction.  You’re a mystery buff?  Try some chick lit.  Click here to submit an entry online!

Challenge #2 Re-read a book you hated in high school.  If you think your tastes have not changed since your teen years, check out your yearbook photo!  You may find that the book you found “boring” or “stupid” in high school makes more sense to you now. Click here to submit an entry online!

Challenge #3 Read a book, fiction or nonfiction, set outside the United States or Western Europe. Click here to submit an entry online!

Challenge #4 Read a novel written before 1990. It doesn’t have to be a “classic.” The books that are in the collection from the 70s and 80s are there because people still check them out and enjoy them. There’s no reason to limit yourself to the New Book shelves. Click here to submit an entry online!

Challenge #5 Read an award winner.  Pulitzer, Booker, Edgar or any of a number of literary awards. Click here to submit an entry online!

Challenge #6 Read a long book – minimum of 700 pages, not including foreword or afterword.  When you complete this challenge, you can submit two entries! Click here to submit an entry online!

The librarians can help you choose books in these categories. See our book lists below or just stop by and have a conversation!
