The Phillipsburg Free Public Library is seeking an enthusiastic, innovative individual for the position of Children’s Librarian.  The successful candidate will build on our tradition of stimulating and interactive programs grounded in educational goals for ages six months to elementary school.

We seek an individual with creative approaches to programming, willingness to engage with local schools and the larger community, and a commitment to diversity and inclusion in library services and collections.  Fluency in technology is a must, including expertise in Microsoft Office, social media applications and digital media. Experience with Polaris is a plus.

Responsibilities of the position will include planning and performing story times and other programs, development of the children’s print and media collection and provision of reference service and reader’s advisory.  Occasional shifts in the adult reference department are to be expected.

The position is 37.5 hours per week and includes at least one evening per week and at least one Saturday per month.


Qualifications include an MLS or MLIS from an ALA-accredited institution and ability to obtain a New Jersey Professional Librarians Certification issued by Thomas Edison State University.  All candidates must reside in New Jersey within one year of appointment. Candidate must pass a criminal background check.
